About me

Liliana Anjos is a Biotechnological Engineer with a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Algarve (CCMAR/UALG). She developed her scientific career at the Centre of Marine Sciences (CCMAR), within the Comparative Endocrinology and Integrative Biology Group, gaining extensive experience in Marine Biotechnology. Her research focuses on the bioprospecting and sustainable exploitation of marine protein biodiversity derived from marine resources (fish, microalgae, mollusks, etc.), aiming to support Blue Growth and generate innovative knowledge and added value with applications in biomedicine, cosmeceuticals, aquaculture, and seafood health, quality, and safety.

Liliana has contributed to numerous national and international research projects, applying her expertise in proteomics, molecular biology, heterologous protein expression, screening approaches to elucidate protein structure and function, as well as immunoassays. She played a strategic role in the implementation and coordination of the Marine Recombinant Proteins and Biosensors Platform at CCMAR (EMBRC.PT), which integrates infrastructure and methodologies for the exploration of marine protein biodiversity. She is a co-author of more than 30 scientific publications and has presented her research at several scientific conferences. Through these activities, she has led scientific teams, strengthened links with industry and applied research, and established a strong collaborative network, enhancing knowledge transfer to society and industry.

She is also involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the fields of biotechnology and biosciences at the University of Algarve (UALG), has supervised bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral theses, and remains actively engaged in the dissemination of scientific, technological, and cultural knowledge.
