About me
Santiago Abraham holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán, Mexico, and a Master’s in Environmental Sciences, specializing in Environmental Technology, from Wageningen University in the Netherlands. During his time there, he completed his Thesis, a project focused on optimizing the cultivation and agar extraction process for Gracilaria sp. in an integrated multitrophic aquaculture system (IMTA). After this, he joined B’ZEOS in Barcelona for an internship, where his research focused on agar extraction for seaweed-based bioplastic use. Santiago worked on different methods for agar extractio,n aiming to reduce the cost of the raw material and make seaweed-based biplastic more accessible. Now, he will be doing a PhD at GreenCoLab, in collaboration with B’ZEOS, focusing on designing a sustainable biorefinery process to produce seaweed-based bioplastics and valorise side streams into high-value compounds for different industries, including aquaculture.
