Luísa holds a degree in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Algarve, where she also completed a Master’s in Sustainable Agriculture and a PhD in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Her research has focused on composting and the application of organic composts in agriculture, both as fertilizers and as tools for controlling soil-borne diseases. She has also explored the use of algae in agricultural soils, particularly as biostimulants and biopesticides. More recently, her work has centered on the recovery and conservation of agricultural soils through the application of organic matter, including mulching, biochar, and organic compost. Improving soil properties has been a central theme throughout her career, reflecting her commitment to sustainable agricultural practices and environmental stewardship.
