Description

The present project aims to develop and optimize alternative systems for bivalve production, promoting their accessibility and contributing to addressing the scarcity of food resources.
Bivalve production is a sustainable way to obtain food with high nutritional value and quality. Although well-established, its dependence on the natural environment is associated with certain challenges that may compromise production (e.g., marine biotoxins, microbiological contamination, anthropogenic pollution, heavy metals, diseases, etc.).
The iOysters project seeks to optimize oyster production conditions by developing closed and semi-closed production systems that enable oyster farming independent of the natural environment. These systems can be implemented either as standalone solutions or as complementary components to other aquaculture systems.
