Madalena Mendes from GreenColab was a guest speaker at the PHABB School 1 Workshop | Identification of Algal Pathogens held at the Roscoff Biological Station. During her presentation, she shared her inspiring journey as a researcher in the field of macroalgae, highlighting the main milestones of her academic and professional career. Her talk was an enriching opportunity for participants to learn about the challenges and motivations that characterise research in this growing sector.
The event, organised by CNRS Sorbonne Université, in Roscoff brought together PhD students, researchers and representatives from academic and industrial institutions for the first workshop of the PHABB network. The programme combined scientific lectures with practical activities, including field trips during exceptionally low tides for sampling along the coast, laboratory sessions and dynamic debates focused on (micro)algae and their pathogens. PHABB stands for Pathogens of Algae for Biocontrol and Biosecurity and is a four-year project funded by the European Commission’s HORIZON–MSCA-2022-DN programme under Grant Agreement No. 101120280. Coordinated by the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, PHABB brings together European institutions, companies and the University of Aberdeen.
