Gabriel Bombo (GreenCoLab), and member of ParAqua COST Action, presented on Monday, 19 May, the latest advances of the Industrial Algae Biotechnology Bank (IBAB), within the scope of Portuguese Blue Biobank (WP9) of the Blue Bioeconomy Pact (PBA). The presentation took place at the CIIMAR facilities in Matosinhos.
During the WP9 general meeting, the new development phase of IBAB at GreenCoLab was highlighted, whose mission is to maintain and back up cultures of algae strains used by associated producers. This effort is essential to ensure the continuity and quality of industrial-scale production.
In addition, IBAB’s collaboration in the ParAqua action has been fundamental in identifying and sharing methods for detecting chytrids, microscopic fungi that affect industrial microalgae cultures, contributing to the mitigation of losses and improving the resilience of cultivation systems.
