On 1 and 2 July, Lais Galileu Speranza, leader of our team’s Sustainability Working Group, took part in the 8th Workshop ‘PPB in Wastewater Treatment: Challenges, Opportunities and Potential for Resource Recovery’, held at Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi (METU) in Ankara, Turkey.

During the Second Session, Lais Speranza presented the paper “Understanding the sustainability of large-scale production of phototrophic microorganisms”, where she highlighted the fundamental role of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in analysing the sustainability of large-scale cultivation of Purple Phototrophic Bacteria (PPBs) and microalgae.

The event was organised as part of the PurpleGain COST Action (CA21146), bringing together international experts dedicated to resource recovery in wastewater treatment.
