On 25 September, National Sustainability Day, GreenCoLab attended the National Exhibition of Blue Bioeconomy Pact (PBA) Projects held at the Port of Leixões in Matosinhos, to represent its participation in the Algae Vertical project (WP5). The event brought together transformative projects and ideas that are shaping the future of the Blue Bioeconomy in Portugal.
With a booth organized jointly by SP7 partners – Regulation, Market, and Widespread Dissemination (GreenCoLab, PROALGA, and RDI), the elegant Algae Vertical (WP5) space served as a living showcase of what algae can offer in terms of innovation and sustainability. Representing GreenCoLab, Mariam Khonaly (leader of the Biorefinery WG) presented the ongoing outputs in SP2 (Biorefinery), highlighting new refined functional ingredients of medium and high value. Kricelle Deamicci (leader of the Food Nutrition WG) showed how algae can transform food through prototypes such as the spirulina burger, which all participants were able to taste at the buffet lunch. The stand also featured a presentation of the work of SP7, by Fátima Pereira ( Dissemination Specialist) with special emphasis on the book “O Verde do Azul – À Descoberta das Algas” (The Green of Blue – Discovering Algae), which aims to bring the public closer to the fascinating world of algae.
The event agenda included valuable moments, such as the opening conference with José Soares dos Santos, Chairman of the General and Supervisory Board of Inovamar, a roundtable on the future of the blue bioeconomy, and a guided tour of the stands showcasing all the verticals of the Blue Bioeconomy Pact. Between scientific presentations and tastings of new food products, the exhibition was a true celebration of innovation, promoting knowledge sharing and showcasing blue solutions for collaboration.
