GreenCoLab participated in the 10th Young Algaeneers Symposium, held at Wageningen University & Research, bringing together students, early-career researchers, industry representatives, and experts from across the algae sector.
Ana Marta Fitas presented a poster titled “Textural Characterisation of Fish Analogue Prototypes Enriched with Microalgae” developed within the Food Nutrition Working Group as part of the LOCALITY Algae project. The research explored the textural properties of alternative seafood products enriched with microalgae.
Carlos Oliveira presented the poster “Extraction and Recovery Conditions of Proteins from Chlorella spp.” developed within the Biorefinery Working Group as part of the Microalgae ALLIANCE project. The study focused on optimizing protein extraction and recovery processes from microalgae biomass.
In addition to the scientific programme, participants engaged in collaborative challenge groups guided by industry mentors. Ana Marta Fitas’s team received the Best Case Study award, recognizing the quality of its proposed solution and presentation in response to the challenge set by its mentor.
The symposium also featured the Dutch edition of the book The Green of the Blue: Discovering the World of Algae, expanding access to educational resources on algae for Dutch-speaking audiences.
The event offered a valuable platform for scientific exchange, networking, and discussion of emerging opportunities in algae research and innovation, while highlighting the growing role of microalgae in sustainable food systems, biotechnology, and the bioeconomy.
