On 1 and 2 July, Lais Galileu Speranza, leader of our team’s Sustainability Working Group, took part in the 8th Workshop ‘PPB in Wastewater Treatment: Challenges, Opportunities and Potential for Resource Recovery’, held at Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi (METU) in Ankara, Turkey. The event was organised as part of the COST PurpleGain Action (CA21146), bringing together international experts dedicated to resource recovery in wastewater treatment.
During the Second Session, Lais Speranza presented the paper “Understanding the sustainability of large-scale production of phototrophic microorganisms”, where she highlighted the fundamental role of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in analysing the sustainability of large-scale cultivation of Purple Phototrophic Bacteria (PPBs) and microalgae.
Participation in the workshop reinforces our team’s commitment to developing innovative and sustainable solutions to current environmental challenges, incorporating algae into resource recovery strategies.
