On 20 November, the Communication team, Fátima Pereira, and Food Nutrition team, Marta Fitas, from GreenCoLab were present at the Algarve Hotel and Tourism School, Faro, to participate in the Local Producers Open Day. This initiative is part of the GROWLife project, which promotes healthier, more sustainable food in line with agro-ecological principles.
GROWLife is the result of a collaboration between the Agroecological Caravan of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon and Turismo de Portugal, involving the 12 Hotel and Tourism Schools in the country. The event was an excellent opportunity for GreenCoLab to showcase its innovative work, reinforcing the importance of microalgae as a sustainable resource for the food of the future.
GreenCoLab presented its latest innovation and offered participants a sensory analysis of Vegan White Chocolate with Spirulina Nibs, which proved to be a much-appreciated delicacy and received very good feedback.
Throughout the day, the team participated in roundtable discussions on sustainability and the future of food production, contributing their vision for more responsible, circular, and science-based practices. At the same time, there was a tasting of dishes prepared by students from the Kitchen Management and Production and Pastry and Bakery Management and Production courses at Algarve Hotel and Tourism School, in which they incorporated Spirulina and Chlorella from our partner Necton, who was also present.
GreenCoLab continues to promote healthy eating habits in educational institutions, encouraging culinary practices that value local producers, their territories and the environment, in line with its mission to build more sustainable food systems for future generations.
