GreenCoLab was present at Lisbon Food Affair 2026, the largest national event dedicated to gastronomy and food innovation, which took place from February 9 to 11 at FIL in Lisbon.

With more than 300 companies, 500 brands, and representatives from 30 markets, the event became a key venue for discovering trends, networking, and supporting the agri-food sector. Across conferences, workshops, and show cooking, innovation was the centre of attention, and GreenCoLab made a point of actively contributing to this dynamic.

At its stand, GreenCoLab presented several products developed by the Food Nutrition working group, led by Kricelle Deamici and composed of Ana Marta Fitas and Daniel Silva.

Among the proposals on display, the following stood out:

      • Algae beer
      • Chocolate with spirulina
      • Algae caviar
      • Algae burger
      • Egg analogue

The algae burger and egg analogue were presented at a workshop led by Ana Marta Fitas and Kricelle Deamici. During the session, the researchers cooked live, and the audience had the opportunity to taste the specialities, which aroused great curiosity and enthusiasm.
“The algae burger is the perfect alternative for those who don’t eat meat,” commented one of the participants. The egg substitute was developed for those who cannot consume eggs and egg products, offering an inclusive and sustainable solution.

GreenCoLab’s innovation also took centre stage at the awards ceremony, winning the LFA Innovation Award 2026 in the Food & Beverage category with its Blonde Ale Craft Beer with Chlorella microalgae, one of two ber types developed by the team.

Among 53 innovative products spread across three categories, the jury unanimously recognised this beer’s ability to combine traditional craftsmanship, microalgae biotechnology, and distinctive sensory profiles.

The second beer developed, with Tetraselmis microalgae, has already won the Food FabLab Innovation Award. During the event, it was presented in a conversation with Kricelle Deamici, who highlighted the subtle marine flavours that characterise this innovative drink.

Lisbon Food Affair was undoubtedly a very enriching and exciting experience for GreenCoLab, showing that food is evolving and that the work done in our laboratories is part of that evolution.
We want to thank Lisbon Food Affair, our partner Fearless Flavours, who helped us create the beer, LEAF – Linking Landscape, Environment, Agriculture and Food, for their presence and indispensable support, and our partner Allmicroalgae.
