Vacancy Purpose

ASSOCIAÇÃO OCEANO VERDE – LABORATÓRIO COLABORATIVO PARA O DESENVOLVIMENTO DE TECNOLOGIAS E PRODUTOS VERDES DO OCEANO (hereinafter referred to as GreenCoLAB) opens a recruitment and selection competition for 1 (one) Lab Technician position within the Animal Nutrition and Health Working Group (ANHWG).

The selected candidate will join a motivated and growing team dedicated to the research and development of algae-based products for aquaculture animal nutrition and health. The role involves hands-on laboratory work with aquaculture species, biological sample processing, analytical assays, and occasionally including animal feeding trials in alignment with the ANHWG’s ongoing R&D projects.

Tasks:
  • Collect, process, and store biological samples (e.g., blood, tissues, feed, and fecal samples);
  • Perform laboratory analyses and assays, including biochemical, molecular, and microbiological analyses;
  • Conduct aquaculture animal feeding trials, administration, and animal welfare monitoring;
  • Maintain accurate and rigorous laboratory records and contribute to technical reports, presentations, and deliverables for partners and funding bodies.
Profile required:
  1. BSc or MSc in Biology, Animal Science, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or related fields;
  2. Strong motivation, drive to grow, and proactive attitude — these are valued above formal experience;
  3. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team;
  4. Good organisational skills, attention to detail, and a responsible approach to laboratory work.
Other Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience with molecular biology and/or microbiology laboratory techniques;
  • Familiarity with lab software or data management tools (e.g., Excel, LIMS, or statistical packages);
  • Prior experience in animal handling (any species);
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).
Position Details:

Starting Date: As soon as possible.
Workplace: The activities will be carried out at GreenCoLab headquarters in Faro, Portugal.
Work schedule: Full-time (35 hours a week).
