Mélissa José, a PhD student at GreenCoLab, presented her extensive research on contaminants in algae at the WG3 Workshop during the ParAqua EU COST Action meeting, at the University of Almería, Spain.
Mélissa’s presentation focused on her doctoral research, conducted at GreenCoLab. She delved into the microscopic world of contaminants, specifically Paraphysomonas sp., and its devastating effects on Tisochrysis lutea cultures. Her work included the identification of these contaminants and innovative detection methods through a detection kit developed under the ALGAESOLUTIONS: Technologies for the Algae Industry project. She also shared insights into the life cycle of these contaminants and presented treatments to effectively control their contamination, paving the way for an enhanced future in algae production.
