From September 15 to 17, our Algal Biobank manager, Gabriel Bombo, presented the latest developments on the Industrial Biotechnology Algal Bank (IBAB) during the European ECCO XLIII Meeting, held in Utrecht, the Netherlands. The event, dedicated to the theme “Securing and exploring microbial biodiversity for a sustainable and healthy future”, brought together experts from around the world to discuss the future of microbial biodiversity.
In his poster, Gabriel Bombo highlighted how IBAB integrates bioprospecting, strain optimisation and biochemical analysis, supported by scalable facilities ranging from cryopreservation to column production systems, which represents a true paradigm shift for the microalgae production industry.
Additionally, the presentation highlighted GreenCoLab’s connection to the ParAqua EU COST Action, where we collaborate on innovative systems for studying contaminants in microalgae production. By combining classic techniques with new cryopreservation methodologies, the goal is to preserve and study contaminants, thereby enabling a better understanding of the microalgae life cycle and the factors that influence their production.
