GreenCoLab took part in the International Conference on Algae Sustainability 2026, held in Nanchang, China, from 24 to 26 July 2026, with two oral presentations focusing on the comprehensive utilisation of algal biomass and the sustainability of microalgal protein production.
Hugo Pereira presented on “Advancing the algae sector: the ALGAEREFINE biorefinery platform for high-value ingredients”, in which he outlined the ALGAEREFINE biorefinery platform. The platform integrates multiple processing stages to maximise biomass utilisation and open the development of high- and medium-value ingredients for sectors such as cosmetics, the pharmaceutical industry, human food, and animal feed.
Lais Galileu Speranza presented “Sustainability assessment of microalgae protein production: Approaches and challenges at the GIANT LEAPS project”. Her presentation addressed the opportunities and challenges of assessing the environmental sustainability of microalgae-based protein production within the framework of the European GIANT LEAPS project.
Organised by Elsevier and Nanchang University, the event brought together researchers, experts and industry representatives, promoting knowledge sharing and creating new opportunities for international collaboration.
