Participation in the EAS meeting 2026, was marked by the approval of IBAB as an institutional member of the European Culture Collections’ Organization. GreenCoLab was represented by Gabriel Bombo at the 44th annual meeting of the European Culture Collections’ Organisation (ECCO), which took place from 14 to 16 September at the University of the Azores in Ponta Delgada.

During the meeting, Gabriel Bombo, coordinator of the Industrial Biotechnology Algal Bank (IBAB), one of GreenCoLab’s core infrastructures, presented its history, objectives, and operations. The presentation also addressed the infrastructure’s future plans and its role in developing the collaborative laboratory’s research and innovation activities.

One of the highlights was the approval, by vote, of IBAB’s membership as an institutional member of European Culture Collections’ Organization (ECCO). This integration represents a significant step towards strengthening IBAB’s links with the European community of culture collections and opening up new opportunities for knowledge sharing and scientific collaboration.

Under the theme “Integrative OMICS for a Changing Planet: New Frontiers in Taxonomy, Ecology and Biotechnology”, the meeting brought together the scientific community to discuss new approaches to taxonomy, ecology and biotechnology.

Participation in this forum provided an opportunity to showcase the work carried out at GreenCoLab and to establish contacts with other institutions dedicated to the preservation, study and utilisation of biological resources.
